Welcome to the latest squire newsletter!
The picture above was taken at the 2019 Mods Mayday concert in London - and we have some great news regarding this years event later in the newsletter!
First of all, we are really pleased by the great reaction to the Boys About Town trilogy - It took everyone by surprise, and we've enjoyed sharing the performances over the last three weeks, and its been fun putting together the parody artwork for the videos!
It’s timely as well because both Ed and Paul have record releases out now. Ed’s Cherry Red CD set is soon to be joined with a couple of vinyl singles due from Heavy Soul Records, while Paul picks up a deserved 5 star review in Shindig and is talking about the record on various web podcast channels.
Squire also have a release due! The next record in the singles re-issue series is due on a couple of weeks, so watch out for that! Meanwhile, The Young Idea, the current single is still available in all the formats of black vinyl, white vinyl, and two tone black & white vinyl,
and it’s a good time to remind ourselves of the three long format releases of Anthony Meynell 'Live In Tokyo' which captures a rare solo acoustic set of Anthony playing a mix of Squire and solo tracks in Japan for the occasion of the Passengers On Trains LP release.
The Young Idea LP, which revisited a pre-Squire era and unlocked many unheard tracks and influences, pointing to the way the band developed the sound.
Finally, the September Gurls extended mix LP, which combined the original album with additional tracks that were rehearsed but never recorded for the album.
We’re very excited to share the news that Squire are back playing live in May! The London Mods Mayday event, postponed from 2020 and 2021 is back on this year.
However, the London date has been expanded to include more bands and will now run over two days, May 1 & May 2 - and Squire are playing both days!
The Mods Mayday event has been further extended to travel around the country like a 1960s package tour!
We will be playing on all the dates except for the last two, Liverpool and Glasgow.
The Squire dates are:
Sun 01 May
London, Round Chapel
Mon 02 May
London, Round Chapel
Sat 07 May
Oxford, Town Hall
Fri 13 May
Sat 14 May
Leeds, The Old Woollen
Fri 20 May
Leamington Spa, Assembly
Sat 21 May
Squire are not playing:
Fri 27 May
Liverpool, Grand Central Hall
Sat 28 May
Glasgow, The Old Fruitmarket
There's a chance we may be playing at the IPO festival in Liverpool in May, so we may make nearly all the cities!
Finally, the Hamburg and Berlin dates have been further delayed until December, and unfortunately we won't be able to play the Eurovision Festival in Spain on 29th April.
So Squire are finally back to playing live again, and looking forward to it!
As a closing piece, just in case you missed one of the Boys About Town episodes, we've added all three You Tube below!
All the best from Squire
