Anthony Meynell & Squire - September Gurls (MONO)- Vinyl LP CREAM
One year on from the mono release, September Gurls returns in style —
pressed on delicious cream vinyl. It’s the crème de la crème of power pop, a musical snapshot of Squire’s raw quality at its peak.
2024 saw the first-ever release of the mono mix vinyl LP of *September Gurls*! Originally recorded in 1984, the version remained unheard—until now.
The concept behind *September Gurls* was to create both stereo and mono versions, highlighting the contrast between the expansive 1980s production styles and the crisp, focused sound of mono radio. Imagined as a collection of singles, the album celebrates the underground powerpop of the time, featuring hidden gems like Big Star's "September Gurls" and covers of The Shoes’ "Boys Don’t Lie" and Australia’s The Clones’ "Tired of Hiding." Squire’s own iconic tracks, "Debbie Jones" and "Can You Tell Me When," also feature prominently.
Compared to the original wide stereo mix, the mono version delivers a listening experience reminiscent of a 1960s record, with energy and performance front and center. This focused soundscape perfectly captures Squire’s newfound guitar-heavy 'powerpop' approach. As Lennon famously said about *Sgt. Pepper* in mono, "If you haven’t heard it in mono, you haven’t heard it"—the same goes for *September Gurls*!
The mono mix is now available in limited edition cream, red and white splatter or classic black vinyl. Signed or unsigned! Don’t miss out!
Or pair it with the black or strawberry edition,
because some things are just better with cream!
